1. What is MTUWASA?

MTUWASA (Mtwara Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority)is a legal entity established in 1998 mandated to provide sustainable water supply and sanitation services in Mtwara Mikindani Municipal, Mtwara peri- urban and 8 wards of Nanyamba town Council.

2. How can I apply for a Water service connection?

Applicant can apply for a water service connection through the Maji Online Applications Portal on the web or by visiting the MTUWASA website, selecting Our Services manual, then opt for Water Services Application. OR visit the MTUWASA Customer Service office at the MTUWASA Headquarters.

3. How do I pay my water bill?

Water bills payments can be made electronically through banks and mobile networks using the control number issued to you. PLEASE NOTE: MTUWASA does not accept cash payments.

4. What should I do if I did not receive my water bill?

If you have not received your MTUWASA water bill, please dial *152*00# Select no. 6, Select Water services, Select no. 3 Water bill, Enter your meter no. OR Call MTUWASA Customer service Toll free number 0800710036 OR visit MTUWASA Customer Service offices at the MTUWASA Headquarters for further help.

5. What causes interruptions to the water supply?

Water interruptions may occur due to maintenance works, technical problems in the distribution system, power supply interruptions at production facilities, or scheduled water rationing.

6. What should I do if I notice a water leak?

Customers can report water leaks through MTUWASA Toll FREE number 0800 710 036, OR visit MTUWASA website- Our Services- Leakage reports

7. What causes water service disconnection?

Water services may be disconnected due to:

Failure to pay water bills on time;
Tampering with water infrastructure including water meters;
Illegal water connections.

8. How can I restore water service after being disconnected?

Customers should clear outstanding payments by paying unsettled dept as well as Reconnection charges.

9. Is MTUWASA water service safe for domestic use?

Yes. Water service supplied by MTUWASA undergoes treatment and quality checks before being distributed to customers hence safe for domestic use.

10. What are the sources of MTUWASA water?

MTUWASA obtains its water mainly from boreholes such as those in Mtawanya, Mbuo, Rwelu, Mbawala Chini, and Mnyawi, but also springs such as Kipokoso and Mchuchu spring.
